Metroid: SR388. Holy. Shit.

If you’re into the game modding community heavily or even casually, you’ll know that 75% of the mods produced are absolute bollocks. However, there are some shining beacons that defy my own pessimistic expectations of fan modifications.

Super Metroid on the SNES is one of the games often having it’s code and programming molested by hobbyists in an effort to make the next big, full conversion mod that would surpass the original game’s mechanics. Fortunately, there are a few mods out in the wild that are actually decent while there are others that want you to pull out your hair in utter frustration.

To add on to the former list is Metroid SR388, produced by vonrichter. Possibly an evolutionary step for the full fan-modded conversion scene, it has new weapons, new animations, new bosses, and new EVERYTHING. I don’t know if this will be a ZSNES .ips patch or a full blown executable file. If it’s the latter, I am fucked as I am a loyal Mac slave.
