Bad Sports: Sports Logos and Uniforms
I like to think that I have mass knowledge of sports logos and uniforms, consider it a bit of a specialty. Because of this, I decided to put my thoughts down about the bad stuff out there. Now I’m inspired here by a guy named Paul Lukas who writes for ESPN.com’s Page 2, and the Uni Watch blog, who has an incredible knowledge and a passionate love for stirrups in the MLB. Anyway, here’s some stuff that needs to be confronted, and yes, reader discretion is highly advised because you might have a seizure, heart attack, or see some insane profanity that will come of this. What you’re about to see is not pretty.
First Up: Super Bowl XLIII
Somebody in the marketing department completely dropped the ball here on this Super Bowl logo. What irks me the most is the grass on the bottom of the wordmark. How the hell is that gonna get painted on the field? We’re gonna have a fucking football field on a football field! Another problem I have is the massive generic-ness of the logo. It’s the biggest letdown of the year, and we’re only 3 months into 2008. How do you go from having a great Super Bowl in XLII then put out a logo like this? Seriously.

Denver Broncos first uniforms in 1960 (AFL/NFL)
Oh boy, oh boy. What were they thinking? It’s a hybrid of shit and puke, that’s what this is. I don’t really have a problem with the away jersey (pictured right) but the home jersey is just atrocious. The icing on the cake here is the vertically striped socks (!). What the hell is the deal with that? I understand it was the ’60s and everyone was really weird back then, but god damn man, what is that?! I’ve never seen anything like this ever, not even in the defunct leagues such as the WLAF, USFL, etc. It’s just bad man, bad.
